Browns Bay Beachfront Upgrade.

Browns Bay Beach Front Lane Upgrade was a high-profile streetscapes project to re-orient the town centre to the beach reserve and transform the area into an attractive, pedestrian-friendly and safe shopping and recreational area. Achieving this goal required extensive collaboration between the client [North Shore City Council], designers [Isthmus Group], contractor [Dempsey Wood] and the local community to ensure a cost-effective outcome that met everyone’s objectives.

Dempsey Wood’s reputation for delivering quality streetscape projects, excellent public relations, and innovative methodology (such as keeping the lane open to vehicles and pedestrians while works were in progress), all proved to be critical in the success of this project. Other key factors were the construction of permeable concrete paving and the most effective method of constructing the bench seats. Our proactive approach to issues, such as achieving the required grade levels to create a pedestrian and traffic ‘shared area’ along the lane, also contributed to the project’s seamless progress.

Dempsey Wood innovated methods to maintain traffic and pedestrian access to the street, adjacent park and beach throughout the project. Our reputation for maintaining effective and approachable community public relations is reflected in the praise received from local residents and businesses.

‘We would like to congratulate the efficient manner in which the work has been carried out with minimum convenience to the residents. We also would like to compliment you on your staff on this site. We have found them to be courteous, helpful and always friendly.’
Resident, Esplanade Apartments, Browns Bay.

‘I wish to congratulate Dempsey Wood and Isthmus Group for their excellent participation with this high profile project. North Shore City Council has been able to work with both parties in a cooperative and pleasant manner to achieve a brilliant result. At all times there was a desire to produce a job which was special and could be enjoyed by the public, as well as achieving a valuable opportunity for property developers.’
Ian Bielawa, Project Engineer, North Shore City Council.
