Airport Terminal Forecourt Upgrades

The streetscape upgrades of the Domestic and International Terminals' forecourts were individual contracts carried out in 2005 and 2008 respectively. The site locations effectively covered all entrances and exits to the terminals, and Dempsey Wood's detailed works staging proactive traffic, safety and risk management ensured access was maintained for the 50,000+ visitors per day.

Albany Junior High School

Dempsey Wood was retained by the Ministry of Education to deliver the civil works package, working alongside the building contractors, on this development of a new high school within a tight timeframe.

Albany Lakes Stormwater Development

A challenging project entailing the enlargement of three existing stormwater ponds with significant concrete structures and retaining walls carried out around a live stormwater system and adjacent to a watercourse as part of the Albany MegaCentre development.

Bayside Reserve Upgrade

Opened to the public in 2009, this IPENZ award-winning project achieved its aim of enhancing water quality at the nearby beach, creating less flooding and erosion, and created a naturalised stream and floating wetlands.

Block G Albany

The Block G Albany Project was a commercial land development that emcompassed a new road network, public drainage and underground services.

Browns Bay Beach Front Lane Upgrade

Award Winner

Carried out on a road between a retail/business/residential town centre and public reserve accessing the beach, this high-profile and multiple award-winning project achieved its aim of creating a shared pedestrian / vehicle area that reoriented the town centre to the beach and reserve.

Cox's Creek Stormwater Upgrade

As an Auckland City funded stormwater upgrade, this project involved the cleaning and stabilisation of the banks of Cox's Creek.

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Facility

Dempsey Wood was retained by Fisher & Paykel as their Principal Civil Works Contractor on the three respective stages of the development of their healthcare facility.

George Bolt Memorial Drive Roundabout

This project consists of a three-lane roundabout in the centre of George Bolt Memorial Drive.  As a Level 3 State Highway with 40,000VPD, comprehensive traffic management planning and stakeholder liaison activities were key to ensure that no delays were experienced by airport users and traffic continued to flow.

Gulf Harbour Development

As marina/subdivision development on the Whangaparoe Peninsula, this project required intricate works programming to overcome site stability issues through the construction of shear-keys.

Hobsonville Subdivision – Buckley Precinct

A V Jennings engaged Dempsey Wood to undertake the civil works package on Stage 1 of this high-profile residential subdivision situated on a 12ha site in Hobsonville.

Hobsonville Watermain

Dempsey Wood was the Principal Civil Works Contractor engaged on Stage 1 of this large-scale residential subdivision development on the former Hobsonville airbase.

Kumeu Floodway

Environmental management was a core component of Dempsey Wood's successful delivery of this project, which entailed stream rehabilitation combined with the excavation of a 300m two-level floodway from SH16 downstream along the Kumeu River.

Lion Nathan - The Pride

Dempsey Wood was Mainzeal's Principal Civil Works Subcontractor on this large development of Lion Nathan’s new brewing facility (a 17ha site).

Key aspects of the scope of works included 290,000m3 bulk earthworks, road, footpaths and carpark construction, services ducting, drainage and construction of three sediment ponds.

Long Bay Subdivision

This high-profile subdivision project is within a stone's throw of the sensitive Awaruku Stream and Long Bay Reserve and is built in steep terrain.
Key aspects of the scope of works include 400,000 m3 complex earthworks, shear-key construction, a 2ha stormwater detention pond and wetland.

Lucas Creek Restoration

This pilot project for the rehabilitation of a creek within the Albany catchment was a high-profile trial for the implementation and development of "soft engineering" techniques that had never been used in NZ before; combined with the creation of an attractive public reserve with wetland areas.

Manukau Square Redevelopment

Dempsey Wood was the main contractor, working with Isthmus Group as the designers, on this high-profile urban space project that achieved the desired outcome of transforming the heart of Manukau’s city centre into a modern, attractive urban environment for public use.

Neilson Street Rail Yard

This project for NZ Rail Corporation entailed working within the live railway environment with significant hazards including live double shunting and container traffic, excavation of toxic waste and the presence of asbestos in excavations.

New Lynn TOD

In 2009 Dempsey Wood was awarded the $13.5m Stage 1 contract for the New Lynn Transit-Oriented Development; a project designed to improve New Lynn's transport and services infrastructure in tandem with an overall town centre upgrade.

Ray Emery Drive Relocation

Dempsey Wood's track record on previous civil works projects for Auckland International Airport Ltd was a key factor in us being selected to undertake the realignment of the main access road to the International Terminal.

Sancta Maria College

Dempsey Wood was the Principal Civil Works Contractor on the development of a greenfields site to produce a new school together with a commercial development and future residential subdivision in East Tamaki.

Takanini School Road Improvements

Carried out in the public roadway adjacent to a school, public safety, stakeholder liaison and constant monitoring of our traffic and pedestrian management plans were critical factors in our successful management of this project.

Tiverton/Wolverton Route Improvements – Stage 1

Part of the strategic road network for the SH20 extension, this award-winning project entailed widening the existing carriageway on a Level 2 arterial route in Blockhouse Bay and constructing concrete and timber retaining walls in an existing service lane.

Verissimo Drive Development

Verissimo Drive links into the George Bolt Memorial Drive Roundabout (a Level 3 State Highway with 40,000VPD) and is a significant feeder route to the airport.

Visy Recycling Centre

Dempsey Wood was the civil works subcontractor for this state-of-the-art $12m development sited on an old landfill area, subject to landfill gases and subsidence, that also incorporated managing tidal flows into the Manukau Harbour outlet.
